Not all Shells belong on the Shore

About ekhaugli

I'm Erica from America living at the top of the world - North Cape, Norway. I run my own gallery, Once Upon a Dream Gallery and Gift Shop, nestled in the picturesque fishing town, Honningsvåg. In 2014 I started and environmental art project, One Step at a Time, concentrating on removing trash from or arctic shoreline.

It’s amazing and sick, the amount and type of crap that gets dumped in the oceans….

What a funny and ambigous title for this picture. This barral could tell a lot of stories if I look at all these bullet holes. Ha en glad pinsehelg!🙂

God pinsehelg til deg og! The title refers to a couple of things… shell petroleum company where the barrel has come from, as well as shells from the bullets that made the holes in the barrel. Both debris that don’t belong in nature🙂 And I agree, the barrel could tell a lot of stories.

Attitudes about where to dispose of our crap haven’t really changed that much, have they.

Yes, it’s sad that many think the ocean is the perfect dumping spot.. out of sight out of mind for those that throw the trash into the sea – and then in plane sight for those that live along the coast. I’m always shocked at what I find on the shore and am working on a project to clean up one section of our island coast at a time.

It’s cool that your horizon is a little left-leaning and all the round things have rolled or appear to be rolling to the left.
Composition wise it’s clever. Reality wise, unfortunate.

    • ekhaugli says:

Thanks Karen, although I didn’t want the horizon to be leaning.. I just uploaded the photo too quickly. Since the coastline in the fore-ground is at a diagonal, I think it has the same effect, without the horizon leaning to the left. So, maybe not so clever composition🙂 And I agree, reality wise its a tragedy.

  5. Aaarrrggghhh! How I hate to see the earth’s beauty besmirched by refuse!

It is very disappointing to walk on the coast and see what’s ended up on the shore. Hoping to spread a little awareness about ocean pollution and I’m working on a project (art installation) that will be ready next summer for the tourist season that will hopefully help raise awareness and funds for this gigantic problem.

Jättefin bild! Vet inte om det ser knasigt ut i min mobil, men vattenlinjen ser lite sned ut. Tror att bilden blir ännu bättre om den blir rak.🙂
